Launch of apprenticeship training wing
8:10am Friday 1st April 2011 in News
Official launch: Wyre Forest MP, Mark Garnier, TDM Wyre Academy managing director, Derrin Kent and University of Warwick WMCETT chairman Mike Smith.
WYRE Forest MP, Mark Garnier, visited Bewdley-based IT services company TDM to mark the official launch of their new apprenticeship training wing.
The Wyre Academy has been open since January and is working with employers to offer opportunities for IT apprentices “to earn while they learn” as well as achieving recognized qualifications based around Information Technologies.
Local businesses and community leaders representatives, together with the academy’s partners from City & Guilds, Warwick University WMCETT, Linux Professional Institute, CompTIA and Pearson Vue were present to see Mr Garnier officially open the training wing.
Conservative, Mr Garnier said: “Apprenticeships are a proven way for individuals to gain the skills they need to succeed and progress in their careers, and for employers to build a workforce with the motivation and expertise they need to gain a competitive edge.”
Derrin Kent, managing director of TDM Wyre Academy, said: “We are very excited at the response we have had from a number of local companies, who see that offering an apprenticeship is not only a great way to recruit and train up new staff, but it is also an opportunity to give something back, through employing a local young person.”
He added: “It has been a tremendous privilege to meet such a talented bunch of young people, who are wanting to get their foot on the employment ladder while gaining the skills, experience and qualifications they will need for the future.”
