LIBRARIES across Worcestershire are springing into action this May with a drive to get more of the county's older people computer literate.

As part of the national Spring Online campaign that runs throughout the month, the county's libraries will be holding a series of events targeted at more senior citizens.

The events, which are designed to help people get to grips with the world of computers, are aimed at those who are either starting from scratch or have a very basic knowledge.

Things going on include laptop surgeries and explorations of what is on offer on the internet in a bid to reach the three in five over-65s group said never to have used the net.

Lynsey Jones, of Worcestershire County Council's Libraries and Learning Service, said: "For people who have never tried them out, computers and the internet can be confusing. Many people simply don't know where to start and because of this they decide not to bother.

"However, once you have got to grips with the basics it's really simple and getting online can open up a whole world of opportunities.

“To name but a few things, computers are a great way of keeping in touch with friends and family, saving money and pursuing interests and hobbies. Drop into your local library and ask for more information about what will be happening in May."

Libraries in Worcestershire offer computer-related courses and advice throughout the year. People can pop in and ask for details. Free internet access is also available.
