FORMER world champion triple jumper Ashia Hansen will be visiting Bewdley to host an event promoting rowing.

She will be talking about her achievements and how support from businesses can help future sports stars, at the town’s rowing club.

The event, on Friday, is aimed at local and regional businesses interested in supporting the sport by developing partnerships with local clubs, teams and individuals.

It has been inspired by budding Wolverley olympian Steve Price who moved to Reading to train with the World Class Start programme, which streamlines talented athletes towards olympic rowing for Great Britain.

Simon Collingridge, of the rowing club, who organised the event, said: “Rowing is a fantastic sport that develops so much more than just physical fitness and to see a Bewdley member like Steve progressing so well is very exciting.

“We’re looking to promote rowing to everyone in the community and be in a position to coach and support them as they progress through the sport, as we have done and continue to do with Steve.

“We are delighted that a world class athlete like Ashia Hansen has agreed to support us at this event and hope that lots of business people will come along and find out more about what we are doing.’ People interesting in more information on how to get involved in rowing are invited to attend the event, which will run from 4pm until 5.30pm.
