MORE than 20 people made emergency calls to Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service's (H&WFRS)fire control room to report the blaze at Hoobrook Industrial estate.

The first calls came in just before 1.45pm and two Kidderminster fire crews were immediately scrambled to the scene.

Two fire crews from Stourport, two from Droitwich and a further two from Bromsgrove along with the aerial ladder platform from Worcester and the command support unit from Malvern were also sent to the scene, following concerns about nearby buildings that contained gas cylinders.

At the height of the blaze, 10 crews including two from Halesowen and Brierley Hill in the West Midlands attended.

Group Commander Mick Cadman said: “The fire involved a single industrial unit (measuring approximately 60m) used for glass fibre manufacturing.

"Fire crews successfully prevented the spread of fire to neighboring industrial premises.

“We would like to thank workers on the industrial estate for their prompt evacuation and cooperation as we fought to bring the fire under control – which inevitably meant local travel disruption as we brought necessary resources in place.”

Fire crews remain on scene and are currently damping down and cooling.
