WYRE Forest’s MP has questioned supermarkets and petrol stations over Kidderminster fuel prices.

Mark Garnier has written to Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Exxon Mobile, the parent company of Esso, asking why their petrol prices are so high in Kidderminster compared to other local towns such as Wolverhampton.

Among other examples, the Conservative cited the fact that, while Sainsbury’s Wednesfield on Rookery Street in Wolverhampton was charging only 129.9 pence per litre of unleaded petrol, on the same day Sainsbury’s Kidderminster on Carpet Traders Way was charging 135.9 pence per litre.

In his letter to the chief executives of the three companies, Mr Garnier wrote: “I am very much aware that, owing to a number of factors, the current price of oil is incredibly high. I also understand that the impact of such factors will inevitably filter down to the pockets of my constituents. However, please could you explain why your outlets are charging up to five pence more per litre in Kidderminster when the distance between these petrol stations is less than 20 miles?”

He is awaiting their responses, which he will be putting on his website markgarnier.co.uk.
