WITH the start of London 2012 only 204 days away, The Shuttle has teamed up with Wyre Forest School Sport Partnership and will be counting down the days to this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.

Every fortnight, we will be showcasing how schools in Wyre Forest are playing their part in what will be one of the greatest sporting events ever seen, leaving a legacy for future generations.

On January 13, young leaders from Wyre Forest high schools and Kidderminster College will access training at The Wyre Forest School (formerly Blakebrook and Stourminster special schools) in preparation for the Celebration of Inclusive Sport.

This Celebration of Inclusive Sport, which will take place on January 20 at the Glades Leisure Centre, provides young people with physical and learning disabilities with the opportunity to develop their agility, balance and co-ordination skills.

The young people will also be introduced to a number of paralympic and disability sports, such as boccia, table cricket and new age kurling. All of the activities will be led by the trained young leaders.

In recent weeks, young people in Wyre Forest also participated in the school partnership’s annual cross country events.

More than 400 Year 5 and 6 pupils competed at the Key Stage 2 event, held at St Anne’s Primary School, Bewdley, and more than 300 high school pupils competed at the Key 3 and 4 events, held in the Wyre Forest itself.

Hagley Primary School won the Key Stage 2 event, with Burlish Park in second and Franche in third.

The Bewdley School and VIth Form Centre won the Key Stage 3 and 4 events, followed by Hagley RC High School and King Charles 1 Secondary School.

The top runners from each race will now go on to represent the Wyre Forest in the county finals of each event in February.
