DEBTS of more than £12,700 could be written off following the failure of Oldington and Foley Park Community Network.

The organisation began in 1985 as Oldington and Foley Park Community Project and changed its name when it achieved charity status in 1995.

It ran an advice shop in Dowles Road, Rifle Range, which offered residents chances to meet Victim Support staff, police officers, nurses and Women's Aid officials.

The network included a weekly youth club and acted as a referral agency for Relate, the Employment Service and Wyre Forest Community Housing among others.

Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet must now decide whether to take the last resort of wiping the debts as the network has stopped operating last year, leaving no likelihood of the money being repaid.

Leader of the district council, Conservative John Campion said: "The council is extremely careful with its resources and is also always keen to support local community projects which make a difference to our residents.

“We are sorry that the Oldington and Foley Park Network got into difficulties and failed last year, their work was valued across the whole of the district. The actions we are taking now are as a direct consequence of the network being wound up.”
