EDUCATING each other to stay safe online was the message at a Stourport school on internet safety day.
Volunteers from ISC2 Safe and Secure Online visited Stourport High School and Sixth Form Centre to talk to pupils about issues such as cyber bullying and identity threats.
The event was part of safer internet day 2012 last Tuesday.
David Potts, assistant principal, said: “As the internet and social networking become increasingly powerful influences upon the lives of young people, it is important to ensure they know how to protect themselves from potential dangers.
“Safer internet day reinforced this issue in a proactive way by providing an environment to discuss the dangers of internet use with an expert and the strategies to stay safe.
“We value the contribution made to ensure the safety of students in our care.”
This year’s safer internet day theme was “discovering the digital world together…safely”, which aimed to encourage families to work together to stay safe online by recognising people of all ages and experience.
John Dickinson, Worcestershire County Council's children protection advisor said: "Tech savvy youngsters can teach their elders how to use the latest technologies available.
“By contrast adults who may have less confidence when using the internet may have more understanding of the potential risk associated with its use and can draw on their life experiences to advise younger generations how to stay safe on line."
