Sealine to axe jobs

AROUND 72 jobs are set to be axed at a leading Kidderminster boat firm, it has been announced today.

The cutbacks at Sealine are set to be made among production and office-based staff, following a detailed review of the company’s production requirements for 2012.

Bill Griffiths, Sealine’s managing director, said: “In order to keep our business strong and growing we need to keep our overheads in line with current demand and to take on board the impact that the global economic situation is having on the leisure marine market as a whole. We have therefore taken the decision to cut our workforce in order to protect the long term prospects of the company.

He added: “Our range of high quality luxury motor boats, from 35 to 60 feet, will continue to be produced using our skilled team based at our factory in Kidderminster. We will also be continuing with our new model development programme to meet the requirements from our customers moving forward”

There will now be a period of consultation and all of those affected will be offered support.

The news comes days after Brintons announced it could be axing up to 150 jobs.

Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier said he had been working with both companies to try and help them.

He added: “Every job lost is a tragedy for those families and individuals concerned. "The economic situation in the UK, Europe and the rest of the world will inevitably have some effect on all our communities. However work continues to try to stimulate economic growth in Wyre Forest and to attract more businesses and employment opportunities to our District."

He added he would be holding a Wyre Forest job fair on March 29 for people looking for employment.
