Baxter College and St John's CE Primary School in Kidderminster are closed today due to a power cut.

Tonight's parents' evening at Baxter is also postponed.

The electricity stopped at the Habberley Road college and Blakebrook school and surrounding houses at about 4am.

Power is back on at the homes but Baxter and St John's remain without electricity.

It is hoped that a generator from Bristol will arrive at lunchtime so they can re-open tomorrow.

Principal at Baxter College, David Seddon said: "I can't work on the assumption that the generator is going to be here in time so I had to take the executive decision to close or today."

He said the college sent a text to parents and staff to tell them of the closure and only 25 of about 1,150 students turned up without getting the message.
