A BRAVE Stourport youngster who suffers from a rare genetic disorder will carry the Olympic Torch through Ludlow.

Lucy Fellows, 15, was nominated by her mother Louise for coping with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and was chosen as a torchbearer for London 2012 in December.

It has now been confirmed she will carry the flame through Ludlow from 1.57pm on Thursday, May 24.

The Stourport High School and VIth Form Centre pupil said: “I am really excited – it is a great thing to do.

“At first it was a bit scary but all my friends said they would come and see me running and support me. I just hope they will be able to get there because it is not close by.”

The Olympic Torch will also be carried through Kidderminster, Bewdley and Cleobury Mortimer and Mrs Fellows said the family were “a little disappointed” she would not be carrying the flame closer to home.

She said: “We were so excited to be chosen but when we found out it would be in Ludlow it took the shine off a little bit. I spoke to London 2012 and they said it was non-transferable but they have taken my details.

“We are still very pleased she has been selected and we know a lot of people here in the community want to support her.”

Lucy, who prepared by running the Sport Relief mile last Sunday, said her school would be sending as many students as possible to watch her carry the flame.

While battling with her own health, Lucy is also a carer for her mother who suffers from a severe form of the same condition, which causes constant joint pains and fatigue.
