A GROUP of Stourport swimmers have “crossed the English Channel”, clocking up a distance of more than 60km for charity.

Members of Waves Leisure Club at the Menzies Stourport Manor Hotel, Hartlebury Road, completed the channel swim in their pool on Tuesday, March 20, raising more than £1,000 for Help for Heroes.

A number of staff also took part in the challenge which saw participants range from the youngest swimmer, seven, to the oldest at 70.

General manager of the hotel, Patrick Jones, said: “I am absolutely delighted for members of the leisure club and staff who came together to complete the channel swim and to demonstrate such a vibrant community club.

“They in turn raised a fantastic amount of money for an important cause and our company’s chosen charity, Help for Heroes.”

A charity Zumba session also took place with further fundraising events continuing throughout the day.
