FIRE crews from Kidderminster and Stourport were drafted in to tackle a major house fire in Barnt Green, near Bromsgrove.
Firefighters were called to a two-storey detached home in Bittell Road, at about 12.45am, this morning.
One engine from Kidderminster and an environmental protection unit from Stourport joined eight engines already at the scene.
At the height of the incident, about 60 staff from Hereford & Worcester Fire & Rescue Service (HWFRS) and West Midlands Fire Service were involved in fighting the blaze.
The police, ambulance service and Highways Agency also attended the incident, along with a support vehicle from the Red Cross.
A total of 20 firefighters with breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets and five main jets to put out the flames, which affected 60 per cent of the roof and first floor. An aerial ladder platform was used for observation. The fire was brought under control just before 6am.
No one was injured but there was extensive damage to the roof space and first floor of the house.
Bittell Road was closed while firefighting and salvage operations continued and is expected to re-open later this morning.
An investigation to establish the cause of the fire is due to start shortly.
