WYRE Forest’s MP has welcomed a report into online child protection.
Mark Garnier said the independent Parliamentary inquiry into the issue and its conclusion that internet service providers (ISPs) should do more to keep children safe would “go a long way”.
The panel of MPs, including Mr Garnier, recommended the Government initiate a formal review of an opt-in filter to access adult material on the internet.
The Government should press for accelerated implementation plans for “active choice”, the content filtering system proposed for new internet customers by the largest ISPs.
It also said public wi-fi networks should have a default adult-content bar.
Mr Garnier said: “This report will go a long way in making the internet safer for children.
“As a father of three children under 10, I am acutely aware of the powerlessness many parents feel when trying to protect their children from inappropriate online content. I look forward to working with the ISPs.”
