Kidderminster shop robbed by youths with meat cleaver
4:12pm Friday 4th May 2012 in News
Distinctive clothing: Detectives are hoping someone may recognise the robbers from the clothes they were wearing.
A STAFF member at a Kidderminster corner shop was left “shaken” after being threatened with a meat cleaver during a robbery.
The incident happened between 7.30pm and 7.50pm on Tuesday, May 1, at Offmore Stores in Albert Road when three youths entered. Detectives have issued CCTV images of the raiders hoping people might recognise their distinctive clothing.
A female member of staff was forced to stand behind the counter while the youths stole a cash and boxes of cigarettes from a display stand which were loaded into an Iceland carrier bag.
Police have carried out house to house inquiries and are conducting forensic tests on a number of items as well as trawling the area for further CCTV footage.
Det Con Carol Davenport of Kidderminster CID said: “Fortunately the member of staff and a young female customer who was in the shop at the time were not hurt but they have obviously been shaken by this.
“The youths involved are understood to have fled down Offmore Road towards Cherry Orchard and we believe they are local.
“Crime of this nature cannot be tolerated and we will do everything possible to trace those responsible. Someone must know or suspect who these people are and may recognise them from the quite distinctive clothing they were wearing.”
Police want to hear from anyone who has any suspicions as to who they are, or saw them fleeing, to get in touch.
