THE sixth annual golf day in memory of a 26-year-old Kidderminster man who died of Leukaemia was the most successful yet.

The event dedicated to Stephen Hayden raised more than £15,000 for charity.

There were 21 teams of golfers teeing off and 100 people attended the evening dinner, at Wharton Park Golf and Country Club in Bewdley, on Friday, May 11 .

The event’s main sponsor was Sandwell Carpets of Blackheath and it was also supported by local individuals and companies.

The day raised money, for Cure Leukaemia, a charity based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham. The teams of golfers included former players from West Bromwich Albion FC and representatives from Kidderminster Harriers FC. Also attending were Stephen’s parents Roy and Barbara and his sister Amanda.

A day on the course was rounded off in the evening with a charity auction and raffle.

The amount raised made it the most successful golf day to date.
