SAINSBURY’S in Kidderminster has raised £3,100 for Stonham Domestic Abuse and Homelessness Prevention in the last 12 months.

Colleagues presented the charity with a cheque to celebrate the success of their year’s partnership.

Back in May last year, Sainsbury’s customers voted for the cause to be considered to receive a year’s worth of support from the Crossley Retail Park store.

The charity, which supports families who have been involved with domestic abuse, was announced as the store’s new local charity partner last June.

During the year, employees put on a number of fundraising activities. Highlights included a fashion show, which took place last summer and raised £500 and a day of helping customers out to their cars, which took place in April and raised £350.

Zoe Jenkins, a senior project worker from the Stonham Domestic Abuse and Homelessness Prevention charity said: “We’re really grateful for the fantastic efforts of the colleagues and customers at Sainsbury’s Kidderminster.

“They have really helped to raise the profile of our charity in the Wyre Forest. We’d like to thank every customer who’s helped contribute to this fantastic total.

“Quite often those who come to us are fleeing abusive situations and have very little in the way of personal possessions. The money will be used to help provide them with some basics during their first few weeks. We also plan to use some of the money to organise day trips during the summer.”

Store manager Kevin Healy added: “From volunteering to the many fundraising activities that we’ve held, our customers have been driving force in making our fundraising efforts for Stonham Domestic Abuse and Homelessness Prevention. The money we’ve raised is really going to help a local charity that’s close to many people’s hearts in The Wyre Forest.”
