WYRE Forest School Sport Partnership held its annual tennis festival at Bewdley Tennis Club on May 22.

Students from Kidderminster College, The Bewdley School, Stourport High School, King Charles 1 and Wolverley CE secondary schools received tennis leader training, delivered by Bewdley Tennis Club’s head coach, Geoff Barrie, in preparation for festival they were supporting.

Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 pupils from The Knoll School, Hartlebury, Cookley, Burlish Park, Lickhill, St Anne’s and Bewdley primary schools took part in the, playing each other in two mini-leagues.

The winners of each mini-league then competed in a play-off to determine the overall winner. Pupils from St Anne’s Primary School won the Year 3/4 competition and Burlish Park Primary School won the Year 5/6 competition.

Both teams will now progress to the Worcestershire School Games at Bromsgrove School, representing Wyre Forest, on Tuesday June 19.

Following the primary school festival, students from King Charles 1, The Bewdley School and Haybridge High took part in the Key Stage 3 Festival.

Playing in teams of four, players one and two played singles matches and players three and four played as doubles. Bewdley won the competition after finishing the festival unbeaten.

On Friday, May 25, gifted and talented athletes from all Wyre Forest high schools competed in the Wyre Forest District Athletics event, at Stourport Sports Club.

A large number of athletes achieved the qualifying standard with their times and distances, so will now progress to the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Championships, representing Wyre Forest, at Nunnery Wood athletics track on June 16.
