A DRIVER suffered face and arm injuries after his car collided with horses near Clent.
The incident happened on the A491 by the turn off for Clent just before midnight last night.
Three horses died following the incident, either deceased at the scene or put down having suffered severe injuries.
Kidderminster firefighters attended the scene with crews from Bromsgrove, the police and ambulance service. The car was found rolled over off the road and the male driver, in his 70s, suffered arm and facial injuries.
He was treated and stabilised at the scene and taken to Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.
West Mercia Police confirmed a vet was called to attend to the horses who, it is believed, escaped from a nearby field - although police are still investigating.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service station commander Dan Quinn said: “We understand the collision involved some horses, believed to have escaped from a nearby field.
“As we arrived, the car was on its side in a field with the driver inside it and we had to use specialist stabilising equipment to secure the vehicle in order to reach the casualty inside.”
The road was closed and reopened at about 2.40am.
