Rain fails to dampen spirits at Broadwaters Fair

POOR weather conditions could not dampen the spirits of revellers at the Broadwaters Fair.
Despite much of Broadwaters Park being waterlogged organisers, the KD11 Scouts and Friends of Broadwaters Park, decided Saturday’s show must go on.
The usual space was not available but organsiers compressed the stalls and the entertainment to one end of the park.
The fair was opened during a rare burst of blazing sunshine by Kidderminster Mayor John Aston who, along with Mayoress Madeleine Craddock, was then introduced to members of the KD11 Scout group.
Entertainment kicked off with a magic show by Ronnie Crackers, followed by the Silver Shadow Majorettes before the rain returned, cancelling the rest of the entertainment.
Up until then, large crowds had enjoyed the many stalls and several stayed on after the rain to try hot dogs and hot drinks in the Scouts’ refreshment tent.
Other stalls included the Rose Theatre’s staffed by actors offering facepainting.
During the fair, Mr Aston cut a ribbon to formally open the park’s newly refurbished bridge naming it Dingle Crossing for the Friends - which also announced they had been awarded Green Pennant status for the seventh consecutive year.
Friends chairman Michael Abraham said: “We are overjoyed that work of our volunteers has been recognised.”
