Ex-Stourport pupil climbs mountain for servicemen

Mont Blanc: Anthony Hill climbed the highest mountain in the Alps for charity.
A FORMER Stourport High School student has climbed the highest mountain in the Alps to raise funds for wounded servicemen.
Anthony Hill, who grew up in Stourport and Kidderminster, climbed 15,782 ft to the top of Mont Blanc for BLESMA, the British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association.
Mr Hill, 27, left school at 16 to join the army where he spent 10 years as a royal engineer.
He said: “I have chosen the charity BLESMA to raise money to help servicemen, who were unlucky enough to be wounded, get back into sports and improve their welfare.
“I hope this to be the first in a long line of events to raise money for this charity.”
Mr Hill is now studying outdoor adventure management at Southampton Solent University. He also hopes to train enough to climb bigger and higher mountains in the future.
He added: “It was difficult but it’s definitely worth it when you get to the top. Once you’ve taken a few photos and stand there and take it all in, you feel on top of the world.”
