PARALYMPIC UPDATE: Cashmore bags relay bronze
9:05pm Monday 3rd September 2012 in News
KIDDERMINSTER'S Claire Cashmore won her second medal of the London Paralympics as GB came third in the 4x100m freestyle race tonight.
The 24-year produced a brilliant second leg to give the home quartet a slender lead.
But the Australians powered into a commanding lead as S10 swimmer Katherine Downie, the most able-bodied of the Antipodean quartet, gave them an insurmountable lead.
Despite the efforts of third leg swimmer Susannah Rodgers, GB were out of the running for gold but were still in second ahead of the USA.
However, USA's Anna Eames produced a final flourish as Louis Watkin was pipped into third. The British quartet did set a new European record of four minutes and 27.71s.
Australia set a new world record of 4.20.39.
Afterwards, Cashmore - who won silver in the SB8 100m breaststroke - praised her teammates.
She said: "It's amazing, these girls are great and it's fantastic to have them in the call-up room and we have so much fun in there."
