ORGANISERS of a loyalty card designed to inject life into Stourport town centre say they have received “nothing but positive” responses as they prepare to launch the scheme.

Shoppers will be able to sign up free to Sold on Stourport from Monday as Town Centre Forum members and Wyre Forest District Council town centre manager Peter Michael continue to gather support fromretailers.

It is hoped about 100 local businesses will get involved in the scheme which will offer customers deals such as twofor-ones, discounts and freebies as well as amonthly email.

The initiative is being launched to encourage people to keep using town centre businesses and attract more customers.

It comes as Tesco prepares to open a superstore in the town in 2013 and it is feared the giant could take footfall away from the town centre.

Mr Michael said: “We are going out to get some more retailers signed up but we have had a very positive start.

“I think it will serve its purpose well. We have had a good response and everybody is excited about it. The first few months will be about bedding down the scheme and just seeing what works.

“It will be up to retailers to make reasonable offers and they are very committed to doing that. It is free for the public and Stourport residents know there are a lot of interesting shops in the town.

“There is an existing loyalty in Stourport which we can tap into, residents have a great affection for this town.”

Mr Michael added organisers will be promoting the scheme to the shopping public with a stall outside Co-op on Lombard Street from 10am until 4pm every day next week.

He said the district council was looking at including extra incentives as part of the scheme but wanted to keep them under wraps for the moment.

Shoppers who are interested in signing up can pick up an application form in any participating retailer or business from Monday.
