Young woman dies in Cookley crash

A YOUNG woman has died after a crash on the Kidderminster to Wolverhampton road at Cookley this morning.

The crash happened at about 5.45am on the A449 between Cookley and Caunsall.

An ambulance was quickly on the scene and backed up by a paramedic area support officer.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found a small car that had been in collision with a small van and had come to rest partly on the road, partly on the pavement.

“The car had suffered very significant damage. A tree and a lamppost were damaged nearby.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent there was nothing that could be done to save the woman in the car and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the van was out of the vehicle on arrival and was uninjured. There was relatively little damage to his vehicle. The road was closed both ways to allow emergency services to work at the scene.”
