WOLVERLEY Carnival-goers enjoyed a sunny afternoon on Saturday after bad weather caused the event to be postponed in July.

The re-scheduled carnival included a procession led by the Severn Valley Samba Band and a decorated Land Rover transporting the carnival queen Esme Johnson, princess Caelen Gower and rosebud Charlotte Hudson.

Floats, the Naval cadet gun carriage, Minis, classics cars, scooters, motorcycles and the Severn Area Rescue Association all took part in the procession.

The fete was opened by the carnival queen who was introduced by Mike Wyer of BBC Hereford and Worcester.

The arena events began with the samba band who were followed by a display by Eclipse Martial Arts, Zumba dancing, the Wyre Forest Navy Training Corps and Wyre Forest Phoenix mini soccer display.

Joe the Clown was on hand to entertain and even tried to take part in the Zumba dancing.

A coconut shy, archery, merry go-round, bungee run, mini golf and more than 40 stalls were held on the Memorial Field.

Folk and blue grass music was played during the afternoon by Them Good Ole Boys.

Carnival team chairman Charles Sherrey said: “We were lucky to have such a warm and sunny afternoon and the carnival team were delighted that Wolverley turned out in force to support the event.

“Whilst the figures have not yet been finalised the event has clearly made a surplus and all of this will be given to local Wolverley organisations and projects.”
