Stourport woman completes 26-mile trek for Alzheimer's charity
A STOURPORT woman has completed a gruelling 26-mile cross-country walk in memory of her father who died from Alzheimer’s disease earlier this year.
Clair Price and fiance Matt Cullum set off on Sunday from Stonehenge and walked to Avebury, both in Wiltshere. The trek took 10 hours to complete.
Miss Price, 39, said they had raised £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society through their Just Giving internet page and a collection at the Old Rose and Crown pub.
Her dad, Jim Docherty, passed away from the disease in March and she described the fundraising as a “personal crusade”.
“The walk was very very hard, much tougher than I thought it would be,” she said. “My legs were giving in during the last eight miles. When I came over the finish line it was a mixture of emotions - tears, laughter, pride and achievement.
“After I lost my father to Alzheimer’s I wanted to do something. I had been a dental nurse for 23 years and made a career change, now I work in Ravenhurst Care Home looking after people with dementia.”
