Young Kidderminster actress set to shine on stage

Future star: Anna Watkins, 7, will be performing as Gretl in Wolverhampton.
A YOUNG Kidderminster actress is making her theatre debut as The Sound of Music’s Gretl Von Trapp at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.
Seven-year-old Anna Watkins was chosen from 200 children to be in one of two sets of Von Trapp children for the show.
The Heronswood Primary School pupil attends Stagecoach at Baxter College where she was recommended to attend her first audition.
Wendy Watkins, Anna’s mother, said: “She’s absolutely over-the-moon. The children were supposed to be over eight to audition for the part of Gretl but Anna is definitely confident enough to do it.”
The production is by South Staffs Musical Theatre Company and will be held from Tuesday, October 9 to Saturday, October 13.Anna is currently attending rehearsals three times a week for up to three hours a night.
Mrs Watkins added: “She’s only happy when she’s on stage. She’s doing amazingly well with all the rehearsing and she just loves it.”
Anna, who is the youngest cast member, will be performing as Gretl on Wednesday and Friday evenings and Saturday afternoon.
