A BEWDLEY golf club is celebrating its 20th anniversary next week with seven open days and discounts for visitors.

Wharton Park Golf Club and Country Club opened for business on October 1, 1992 and was taken over by Allan and Anne Umbers, with their daughter Stacie in 2010.

Over the past two years, £1 million has been invested in the club to help improve its energy consumption and services it provides.

Free tea and coffee will be provided from Monday for one week for anyone who would like to visit the club.

Owner Allan Umbers said: “The general public considers Wharton Park as just a golf club and are unaware how much more the country club has to offer.

“We hope that our neighbours and the local community will take this opportunity to call in.”

Celebrations include a ladies day which will take place on Monday with a complimentary taster session from 1.15pm to 2pm and a 20th anniversary Sunday lunch will be held on Sunday, October 7.

Wharton Park host a number of charity events throughout the year including Macmillan Coffee Mornings and the Mayor’s charity auctions.

The club has also recently been awarded funding from Sports England and The Lottery Fund to purchase an eight-seater golf buggy to assist children with disabilties to get around the course.
