Success for first Bewdley Youth Festival

THE first Bewdley Youth Festival took place on Saturday showcasing the talents of young people and providing them with a variety of opportunities.
The day included music events, photographic exhibitions, master classes in cookery, cake decoration and felt making and a magic show.
A finale concert was held featuring classical pianist Jinah Shim and Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra.
A spokesman for Bewdley Youth Festival said: “This year was an experiment but its success means we will be aiming to expand the day next year and we hope to secure some funding to enable us to do so.”
The opening event at the Youth Festival involved 60 students from the Bewdley School and Sixth Form exhibiting art, history and poetry that had been completed as part of a project alongside the Bewdley Civic Society and Historian Heather Flack.
Ms Flack, who worked with the history department said: “It is a joy to share one’s passion for local history and help young people to get excited about what their town used to be like.”
Staff at the school also co-ordinated the project in English lessons where students expressed their ideas about the industrial heritage of the town through poetry and the art department helped to produce mixed media 3D pieces depicting visions of Bewdley, its history and its future.
