Almost a third of blankets found to be unsafe at Bewdley event

ALMOST a third of electric blankets checked at a safety testing session in Bewdley were found to be defective.

A total of 55 blankets were tested at Bewdley Fire Station and 17 failed the safety checks, on Tuesday last week.

Caroline Webster, community safety advisor with Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS), said:”We were able to offer replacement blankets when those tested were found to be defective and it is reassuring to know that these unsafe blankets are no longer being used on people’s beds.”

Eight referrals for home fire safety checks where also made at the event. Members of HWFRS’s community safety team will visit people at home to give fire safety and fit smoke alarms.
