Finalist: Jenny Knowles received a small grant at the Biffa Awards for Age UK Wyre Forest.
A GRANT has been awarded by Biffa Waste Services to an Age UK centre in Kidderminster to help with the cost of refurbishment.
Age UK Wyre Forest has been given a £5,000 grant for being a finalist at the 2012 Biffa awards, which help to fund community and environmental projects across the country.
Chief Officer Jenny Knowles attended the ceremony in Chatham to receive the grant to help refurbish the Tulip Tree Centre in Castle Road.
Mrs Knowles said: “Biffa have five different funding categories and my bid was selected with four others from over 200 bids in the small grants category.”
The overall winner of the small grants was Stonebridge Meadows Community group which built a walkway for year round access over meadows to the River Kennet in Wiltshire.
Mrs Knowles added: “The grant from Biffa made a big difference to us and allowed me to go ahead with the refurbishment which was very badly needed.”
The Centre will be holding an open day on Monday, October 15 from 10.30am until 2pm.
