Update on M5 crash - four people injured, one with severe head injury

FOUR people were injured in last night's collision involving three cars on the M5.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 3 shortly before 7.55pm.
At the scene was a BASICS emergency medic, three senior paramedic officers in rapid response vehicles, two paramedic area support officers in rapid response vehicles, the MERIT trauma doctor, the West Midlands CARE Team and three ambulance crews.
Fire crews from Kidderminster, Redditch, Bromsgrove and Droitwich were also called to assist at the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “In one of the cars were a man and a woman in their 40s.
"The man had a head injury and a broken leg. He was anaesthetised and his airway maintained on scene before he was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
"The woman had a broken leg, broken ankle, fractured pelvis and a severe head injury. She was given pain relief at the scene and was immobilised before being taken to the same hospital.
"The driver of the second car involved, a woman in her 40s, had a broken arm and a suspected fractured pelvis. Her broken arm was wrapped in a vacuum splint, a pelvic splint was applied and she was fully immobilised. She was also taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
"The woman driver of the third car involved had minor injuries including cuts to her feet. She was taken to the same hospital.”
