New forum to fight incinerator plan

A NEW peer forum has been set up to oppose the planned Hartlebury incinerator.

Hereford and Worcestershire Action Group (HWAG) has been started by residents of the two counties following concerns about the financial and environmental impact the EnviRecover waste processing plant would have.

The group held meetings in Worcester and Hereford on Monday and Tuesday. They want councillors to call for a deferment on the approval of the contract so they can scrutinise the finances of the deal and consider alternatives.

The group fears the lifetime costs of the facility could cost tax payers more than £1bn, despite the council’s £120m estimate figure.
