By William Tomaney
NOMINATIONS for those standing for West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner close on Friday.
Voters across Wyre Forest will vote for a PCC for the West Mercia area - Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin, on Thursday, November 15.
After the commissioner is elected, West Mercia Police Authority, made up of nine councillors and eight appointed independent members, will cease to exist.
The elected commissioner will take on several of the authority’s roles, such as setting the police budget and will be accountable for how crime is tackled. A panel with 15 councillors and two independent members will be set up to hold the commissioner to account.
Final candidate information will be available from Friday, October 26. So far three candidates - Labour’s Dr Simon Murphy, Conservative Adrian Blackshaw and Independent Bill Longmore - have said they will run.
