BEAUTY students at Kidderminster College are helping to give historic canal boat Bramble a ‘makeover’.

Trainee therapists will be pampering customers at Brantano’s ladies night tonight in Weavers Wharf, Kidderminster, for donations towards ‘cosmetic surgery’ for the 1934 working boat.

Treatments tonight include Indian head and hand massages, mini-manicures and hair and make-up advice.

The event, from 4pm until 9pm, will include 20 per cent off everything at the shoe store.

There will be displays, samples and raffle goodies from Thorntons, the Sweet Jar, Frankie and Benny’s, D’nada Ltd gifts and flowers, and Jewellery Ltd.

Kathryn Jones, lecturer in beauty therapy, said: “Kidderminster College is delighted to be involved in supporting the Bramble canal boat appeal.“It will be a fabulous experience for our learners and an opportunity to let people know about the fantastic work we do at our salon – Elements – at Kidderminster College. We offer beauty treatments and hairdressing at greatly discounted prices.”

Pauline Annis, chairman of Stourport Forward, which needs £7,000 to get Bramble looking ship shape, said: “We are delighted to hear that Kidderminster College are supporting the Bramble Appeal and hope that it will encourage their students to visit Stourport Canal Basins, view Bramble once she has been fully restored and to learn about the history of the site.

“We hope that local schools will also join The Shuttle’s Bramble Appeal and encourage their students to learn about the origins of Stourport as a historic Georgian canal port.”

Once restored, the boat will become a piece of living history to educate schoolchildren and visitors on life on the waterways. We want to hear from schools that can organise a fund-raising event to help Bramble. To book an appointment at Elements at Kidderminster College call 01562 512008.
