ASDA in Kidderminster has jumped aboard The Shuttle’s Bramble Appeal and customers can help us sail closer to our target.

The New Road store has nominated the 1934 canal boat as one of three good causes to receive money from bag packs, collections and fun days, over the next three months.

All causes will get a share of the cash but shoppers can use tokens to vote for the one they want to benefit the most.

Also in line for some of the funds is Worcestershire Association of Service Users (WASU) which aims to break down barriers for disabled people and Wyre Forest Naval Training Corps.

Pauline Annis, chairman of Stourport Forward, which owns Bramble said: “It is really encouraging that local supermarkets, such as Asda, are eager to reach out and support local community projects in this way. "Every penny that is given to the Bramble Appeal brings us closer to our target and we are so grateful to local people for their generosity so far. We hope that local people will continue to support our appeal by placing their token in the Bramble Appeal box when they shop at Asda Kidderminster.

“We also want to send our good wishes to the other two charities who are part of the Asda appeal who also do fantastic work in the local community. We feel very privileged to be part of the appeal with them.”

Andrew Clissett started as store manager at Asda at the end of March. “It’s massively important for us to support local charities,” he said. “We see it as our responsibility to put something back into the community and to create awareness for the different causes and promote them within our store.”

The Shuttle wants local businesses schools and groups to help raise the £7,000 needed to restore Bramble as a heritage treasure. She needs a new prop shaft, mechanical and electrical work, new covers and fenders, a lick of paint and historic and replica items to furnish the living quarters as they would have been in times past.

Ways to jump aboard our Bramble Appeal: If you or your school or group can organise a fund-raising event, contact The Shuttle and we will help publicise it by featuring it in our weekly coverage of the appeal.

If you wish to send a donation, make cheques payable to Stourport Forward Limited and send them to Jennifer Meierhans, at The Shuttle, 6 Towers Buildings, Blackwell Street, Kidderminster DY10 2DY. Please include your contact details as Stourport Forward would like to respond with letters of thanks to all those supporting the appeal.
