A STOURPORT cafe owner has boosted the Bramble Appeal after winning a silent auction for a watercolour painting of the town’s canal basins.

Lyn Round, of the Windlass Cafe/Restaurant, submitted the winning bid of £60 for the original artwork, which she has put on display for her customers.

It was created by former Kidderminster Art Society chairman Ken Jackson, 93, who brushed up on his painting skills to donate the framed watercolour to help the appeal to restore working canal boat Bramble to its former glory.

Ms Round said: “We are delighted that we have won the silent auction and will be very proud to host Ken’s beautiful original watercolour.

“It is very comforting to know that we will be able to house the picture on site in the historic Georgian Canal Basins where we know that it will be appreciated by our customers.

“Our close-knit staff team have worked really hard over the last few years to build a safe, relaxing peaceful cafe/restaurant where visitors and local people can enjoy fantastic views of the basins and a wide range of good quality, freshly made food and drink, including our recent addition of traditional farm house ice cream by Bennetts of Manor Farm, Worcestershire.”

Pauline Annis, chairman of Stourport Forward, which owns the 1934 canal boat, added: “We are delighted that Lyn made the successful bid and that Ken’s watercolour will remain at Stourport Basins on display to customers at the Windlass Cafe/Restaurant.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support that we receive from Lyn and her staff team all year round.

“It is great to know that local people and visitors will be able to enjoy the picture while enjoying a relaxing meal or drink at the Windlass.”
