A KIDDERMINSTER supermarket has jumped aboard the Bramble Appeal to help restore the 1934 canal boat.

Asda, in New Road, nominated Bramble as one of three good causes to receive money from bag packs, collections and fun days, through its Asda Community Life appeal.

Shoppers were given tokens at the checkout to vote for one of three local charities/or voluntary organisations before leaving the store during the last three months.

Also receiving funds from the supermarket were Worcestershire Association of Service Users (WASU), which aims to break down barriers for disabled people, and Wyre Forest Naval Training Corps.

The Shuttle’s Bramble Appeal received a cheque for £25, a £10 gift card and a trolley barbecue from the supermarket giant.

The gift card and barbecue will be used by Stourport Forward, which owns the boat, as raffle prizes to raise more cash for the appeal.

Andrew Clissett, store manager, said: “It was quite a close result but the Worcestershire Association of Service Users came first.

“We are really proud to be part of a local scheme to support voluntary and community groups in and around Kidderminster.

“We also believe that we have helped to increase awareness about the Bramble Appeal.

“Our shoppers have been quite intrigued about the Bramble Appeal and many have asked Asda colleagues for more information about the project.”

Pauline Annis, chairman of Stourport Forward, added: “We are extremely grateful to Asda, Kidderminster, for all of their kind donations and for their support and enthusiasm for the Bramble Appeal.

“It is a great example of a local supermarket reaching out to and supporting their local community.

I know that they are keen to raise awareness of local needs and issues as well as raising much-needed funds and I hope that their ongoing Asda Community Life Appeal will continue to be a great success and benefit to many more local charities and groups.”

The Kidderminster supermarket will have a Bramble Appeal donation box in store to continue raising funds for the appeal.
