A STOURPORT councillor has given the Bramble Appeal a cash boost.

Independent Community and Health Concern (ICHC) member Dixon Sheppard has donated £70 towards the restoration of the 1934 canal boat.

The Wyre Forest district and Stourport town councillor donated the cash after winning £50 through the ICHC Lottery and generously added an extra £20 to his winnings for the appeal.

He said: “My wife [Janice] and I have lived in Stourport for 35 years and we are both very keen to preserve the heritage of the town.

“I have supported Stourport Forward for a number of years now. My wife and I do as much as we can but we can’t do as much as we want to, due to time constraints. When I won the £50 prize I thought it would be great way to support the Bramble Appeal.”

Pauline Annis, chairman of Stourport Forward who own Bramble, added: “We are extremely grateful to Dixon and his wife Janice for their very generous donation and for all their support for Stourport Forward in a range of ways, including as volunteers, over the years.

“Their donation will be a great help to our work to restore Bramble to her former glory.

“We are so grateful to everyone who has made a donation to make this project possible so far and hope that local people will continue to support us so that we preserve this historic working canal boat as a symbol of Stourport’s heritage for future generations."
