A WYRE Forest district councillor has given the Bramble Appeal a boost by donating £250 towards the restoration of the canal boat.

Conservative Mike Salter, once a director of Stourport Forward, which owns the boat, donated the cash from the £1,000 he was allocated through the district council’s community leadership fund.

He said: “This seemed a great opportunity to support the Bramble Appeal. The work of Stourport Forward, including the project to restore Bramble, is very close to my heart.

“The project to restore Bramble is a marvellous idea, as it will be used for educational purposes, including school visits, and for its role in helping to preserve the heritage of the Georgian Canal Basins. The project has the support of everyone that I have spoken to. I wanted to be part of the team that has supported this excellent project.”

Pauline Annis, chairman of Stourport Forward, added: “We are extremely grateful to Mike for allocating this donation from the WFDC community leadership fund to the Bramble Appeal.

“Mike has been a strong and steady supporter of the work of Stourport Forward and this donation will be a great help to restoring Bramble.”
