AS summer is finally here it’s an ideal time to remind everyone to be extra vigilant when locking up at home.

Wyre Forest is a low crime area and the number of burglaries continues to fall. However, many of the burglaries that do occur are what we call ‘sneak-ins’. This is where people leave a door or window unlocked.

Even when you are in another part of the house a burglar can sneak in and take a mobile phone, purse or whatever is lying around. Often they will take keys to a car parked on the drive.

In warm weather we all like to leave windows or doors open, but please think before you do so. Could someone sneak in without you knowing?

Do you lock your front door when you’re in the house or especially when you’re in the garden? Do you lock up when you’re in the shower or watching television? It could be easy for a burglar to sneak in when you’re not looking.

Windows are also another easy way for intruders to get in. Even if the window isn’t big enough for someone to get through, it may be enough for someone to reach in and take something left on a work surface.

In just a few seconds, a sneak-in thief can steal a wallet, handbag or car keys, so please make sure valuable items are out of sight.

Remember, if you see anyone acting suspiciously in your neighbourhood please report it to us as soon as possible. If you realise you have been burgled please try not to touch anything and call us as soon as you can on 0300 333 3000.

Hopefully, if we all take a moment to think about our home security, this won’t happen to you and we can all enjoy the sunshine without any worries.
