  • "Inspector, not surewe are in a low crime area, although most of the crimes I witness are due to a lack of respect for anything, particularly authority.

Could I point you to Grampian police force's new 'back on the beat policy' Numbers have fallen across all areas by as much as 37% and as little as 20% with real community policing. Detection rates went up 5%. it's all about communication & visibility. Are you really hoping that if everyone locks their doors and windows that burglaries won't occur?

And sorry jane, if the police were not wasting their time on drugs they may have time to get back on the beat. all of the saved money from the war on drugs could go into rehabilitation and education, along with that made from licensing and duty, instead of criminalising vulnerable people who often had no choice and become trapped in their situations."

On the Beat - April, 2011

AS the weather starts to warm up a bit it’s an ideal time to remind everyone to be extra vigilant when locking up at home.

Wyre Forest is a low crime area and the number of burglaries continues to fall. However, many of the burglaries that do occur are what we call ‘sneak-ins’, where people leave a door or window unlocked.

Even when you are in another part of the house a burglar can sneak in and take a mobile phone, purse or whatever is lying around. Often they will take keys to a car parked on the drive.

In warm weather we all like to leave windows or doors open, but please think before you do so. Could someone sneak in without you knowing?

Do you lock your front door when you are in the house or especially when you’re in the garden? Do you lock up when you’re in the shower or watching television? It could be easy for a burglar to sneak in when you’re not looking.

Windows are also another easy way for intruders to get in. Even if the window isn’t big enough for someone to get through, it may be enough for someone to reach in and take something left on a work surface. In just a few seconds, a sneak-in thief can steal a wallet, handbag or car keys, so please make sure valuable items are out of sight.

Remember, if you see anyone acting suspiciously in your neighbourhood please report it to us as soon as possible. If you realise you have been burgled please try not to touch anything and call us as soon as you can on 0300 333 3000.

HopefullY, if we all take a moment to think about our home security this won’t happen to you and we can all enjoy the sunshine without any worries.
