I HOPE you had an enjoyable Christmas and were able to spend time with family and friends.

At this time of year we often take stock, look back and consider New Year resolutions.

I did this recently when I met with some of the chairmen of the PACT panels. These people very generously give up their time to chair a meeting where the local community can raise any issues with a view to achieving improvements.

The chairmen identified to me a number of successes they have had in 2011, including the removal of graffiti from the side of a building, the installation of a weight restriction road sign, the reduction of anti-social behaviour in a cul-de-sac and the clearing and cleansing of an alleyway.

These meetings are open to all residents and I would encourage you to attend to raise any issues you have or simply to find out more about what’s going on in your area.

Dates for meetings can be found at www.westmercia.police.uk under the Local Policing section. If you are unable to get to meetings you can contact your local policing team and the telephone number can be found on the website.

Finally, with New Year’s Eve round the corner please be careful if you are going out to celebrate.

Remember these top tips: l Plan how you’re going to get home.

l Never be tempted to drink and drive, and don’t drink too much – know your limit and stick to it.

l Never leave your drink unattended or accept drinks from a stranger.

l Look after your mates and stay together. Try to have someone in the group who stays sober to make sure everyone else is safe.

l If you come across trouble don’t get involved, simply walk away.

lAnd finally don’t walk home alone and try to avoid shortcuts and unlit areas.

Have a great time!
