HSBC Corporate Banking has announced two senior appointments to its Midlands team, based at the bank’s regional headquarters in Stephenson Place, Birmingham.

Ian Martin has been appointed as regional head of HSBC’s real estate division, while Hayden Adams has joined as corporate banking manager.

The appointments are intended to strengthen the bank’s expertise in core areas and enhance the 26-strong team’s client offering across all sectors.

Ian joins from Lloyds TSB, where he was regional head of property finance for the Midlands and South West. His primary focus will be on using his experience to enhance HSBC’s real estate offering for its clients. He arrives in mid-September.

Ian brings 20 years experience in the real estate sector to the bank. A qualified town planner, he started his career at a nursing home developer before moving to Jones Lang La Salle, where he spent 12 years in roles across fund management, leasing and development in London, Hong Kong and the Midlands.

Most recently, he spent three years with Lloyds TSB, taking pivotal roles in the development finance of the high profile Calthorpe House and Cube projects, plus arranging financing for Unite to fund 13 student accommodation projects across the Midlands.

Hayden joins HSBC from HBOS’s corporate team, where he spent eight years, predominately working on corporate new business, corporate client relationships and credit. Before that, Hayden spent 14 years with Natwest. With 22 years in banking, he has experience in the corporate field, as well as in credit and business turnaround.

Maurice Heath, head of corporate banking at HSBC, said of the appointments: “I am delighted that individuals as well known and respected as Ian and Hayden have chosen to join our corporate team.

“We have taken time to ensure that we secured the right people to further develop our skills base and expertise, ultimately impacting and benefiting our client offer.”

Ian Martin said: “This is an exciting and challenging step for me. HSBC already has a strong reputation, an excellent team and some great clients and I now have the enviable opportunity of taking this to the next level.”

Hayden Adams added: “The HSBC corporate team is going from strength to strength and I am very excited about this opportunity to be a part of it.

“I am keen to add my experience and knowledge to the team to help continue the development and growth of our business into the future.”
