On May 9th KEMP Hospice in Kidderminster hosted a very special luncheon at the Ramada Hotel in Bewdley, Kidderminster, at which the guest speaker was Baroness Julia Neuberger DBE.
Baroness Neuberger, writer, broadcaster and life peer, is one of the most important and stimulating political cultural voices of our time. She writes and speaks on areas such as medical ethics, old age, politics and culture on a national and international level, and is currently the Prime Minister's Champion for Volunteering.
150 guests were present, as she spoke on risk in a risk averse' society, our care for the elderly and the work of the hospice movment. Her talk was wide ranging, challenging and supremely well-informed, and her audience included healthcare professionals, members of political parties, representatives from the voluntary sector and church leaders.
KEMP Hospice Chairman Isobel Dale welcomed Baroness Neuberger and the vote of thanks was given by Hospice patron and Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Michael Brinton. Mrs Dale said that it was a privilege and a delight to be able to hear Baroness Neuberger's incisive and well-informed comments on issues that affect us all in our society. The luncheon was organised by KEMP Hospice, which gives palliative care to people living with life-threatening illness in the Wyre Forest area, and offers pastoral and practical support to their carers and families.
