Kidderminster...be part of it

Creating right mix for livingCreating right mix for living

ENSURING that there are enough homes for the residents of Kidderminster and that the town's neighbourhoods are attractive and vibrant places to live - these are two key ambitions of an emerging regeneration programme for the town.

Posted by Graham Cooke, Kidderminster: I would like to see far more prominence given to the river Stour and the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal.

Posted by Compo, Kidderminster: Start with the old Marks and Spencer in High Street. Make it into a mall from the Rowland Hill Centre to the High Street. Cover the High Street in "tenting" (similar to the roof of the Swan Centre) and spread it to cover Worcester Street and Vicar Street.

FOR centuries Kidderminster's industry and employment heritage has been dominated by the carpet manufacturing industry.

THE river Stour, which runs through Kidderminster, was lost beneath bricks and mortar following years of intensive carpet manufacturing when it was used as a water source to wash and dye.

Posted by Michael Grassi, Kidderminster: My suggestions: 1. Comberton Hill - Town gateway' Remove the Comberton Hill island and replace it with a flyover, giving direct access from Comberton Hill to the town (with the ringroad going underneath) and link the station to the town hall with a tram (San Francisco style!) 2. Make Tesco create a new access across the canal from Park Lane and pedestrianise the area from the Tesco petrol station right up to the town hall, including the existing bus station (see point 4) thus creating an open green space behind the college, library and bus station, using the river frontage to its full potential.

All the proposals for the regeneration of Kidderminster I'm sure will advance the town both structurally and economically.

ALTHOUGH during the 1940s Kidderminster missed being a target for the Luftwaffe, from the air I imagine all the current islands and craters would tell another story.
