Kidderminster Filmmaker Showcases his Talents

Craig Martin's film - Modern Times

Craig Martin, 20, a talented film maker and HND Film Making Student at Kidderminster College, has entered his film Modern Times' into a competition in a bid to be recognised as a filmmaker of the future.

Virgin Media Shorts is a brand new short film competition that champions undiscovered filmmakers and showcases the best British talent. Submissions to the competition could see their work broadcast in front of millions, online, on TV and in 211 cinema screens nationwide In addition, the winner receives up to £30,000 and the opportunity to work directly with the UK Film Council and Virgin Media to shoot their next film.

Craig, who also works as a projectionist at the Warehouse Cinema, is the first of Kidderminster College's HND Film Making students to enter the competition with a film focusing upon the plight of a black and white 1920's silent movie character trying to escape the modern colorful world in which he has become trapped.

Of his film Craig said: "I had no single point of inspiration for the film, but I am a huge fan of Laurel and Hardy and am intrigued by the idea of someone entering a different world. I hope my film goes a little way to reflecting how life has changed over the years."

Anna Place, Head of Lifelong Learning at Kidderminster College, said: "Craig is a real inspiration; he has immersed himself in film which is clearly his passion. He is talented and very modest student and I think that his film is a thoughtful and technically adept piece of work which we are all very proud of."

Craig's film, Modern Times, can be viewed online at http://www.virginmediashorts.co.uk/film/1531249462 until the 30th June 2008.
