Firstly, I'd like to hold my hands up and apologise to anyone who I have caused annoyance or distress to of late with my "Flawed writing style". Yes, maybe my blogs are a little "Flawed" sometimes, and maybe that has something to do with my attendance at school not being upto much, there is very little time for school when you have a mother who often needs 24 hour care. But that is an entirely different blog... So for now, here is some of my poetry. Enjoy.
Hello there everyone. As seems to be the trend with some of my esteemed colleagues recently, I seem to have forgone my blogging activity and succumbed to the weird and not quite so wonderful world of normal life. Seems I didn’t listen to my own blog and yell that I was ‘mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.’ And wow, have I missed some debates!
Browsing through the blogs of the last couple of weeks has been most entertaining. If you need a mix of politics, music, current affairs, football, architecture, holidays, Tesco, censorship, shopping, days out, etiquette, a reminder of student life (well, of how long ago it was now… thanks Robert for that), well, look no further, we have it all. I’d spend all day commenting to them all, so I’ll say thanks everyone for a most entertaining read, and that goes for those commenting too, without whom Nick wouldn’t have fun arguments…
Oh, and Katie, despite some scathing comments, do keep writing, the responses to your Nottingham trip are priceless! In equal measure the responses showing both the value and emptiness of the human race. So easy these days to rattle cages.
There’s a debate to be had methinks. Let’s see now…
Well well well, running fights... riots in the streets... just like the good old days. Last nigh the streets of Manchester were subjected to waves of violent behavior perpetrated by 200 odd pissed off Scots. Obviously annoyed that Glasgow Rangers were too crap to beat Zenit St. Petersberg the hordes of Scottish fans decided to vent their frustration on Manchester.
I wonder however, would the hooligans have done the same in a foriegn city? Did they fight with more zeal and fling the beer bottles that little bit harder because they were in England? Is it because they "hate the English"... It must be sad to be fuelled with that kind of hatred. Would those 'fans' have done the same even if they had won?
Anyone who remembers the Home International Championships, especially those who lived in London.. specifically the area around Wembley, always dreaded the Scots visit. It was certainly the time to steer clear of the tube stations.
'Rolling back the years' is a term, if used in a footballing sense, ideally to be used to describe a piece of sublime skill displayed on the field. Such a display that would hark back to the old footballing legends like Stanley Matthews and George Best. Unfortuantely, last night was like rolling back to the year 1985... to the Heysel tragedy... remember that? Or perhaps something a little more recent. Once again in Belgium, the scenes of drunken English fans running riot at Euro 2000.
You have to feel that there will be repercussions following these events. Uefa may want to take a hard line on this matter because if left unchecked, this could start a slide back to the days when violence of this scale was a regular occurance. For instance, the decision could be made to ban all Scottish clubs from European competition... hows that for starters. Don't forget that England were a mere whisker away from getting chucked out of Euro 2000 for similar actions.
Throughout it's history, Channel 4 has been known for being the true alternative channel, without which we would never have known 'Bravo'. From Brookside to Eurotrash, C4 screened all of the programmes which would have looked out of place on any other channel... case in point, Graham Norton. When he started out on C4 he could be as rude and irreverant as he wanted, then he made the switch to the BBC and there he is hosting 'I'd Do Anything'... which seems apt for him at the moment. Not that there is anything wrong with what he does but he has the talent to do much better things.
Howdie all! I would like to apologise for my rude and frankly inconsiderate absence. Recently I have been sitting my final exams at university and my somewhat simple mind has been elsewhere. I have been consumed with a sense of impending doom as my final days of being a student slip away. Woe, woe and thrice woe!
Politicians are loath to play the 'Return to Family Values' card; the last to try this was John Major but it is with Politicians that we must make a start.
