Huge increase in rural bus fare

I WOULD like to report the scandalous price rise in bus fares that have been forced onto passengers in rural areas who have no other option than to use the bus.

In March the return fare from Arley to Kidderminster was £2.30 return - a reasonable amount.

In April Whittle Coaches raised the fare to £3.70 and now the contract has changed to Arrive and Choice and the fare is now £4.20 return.

I know fuel price rises will be passed on to the passengers but a rise of over 80 per cent is not justified.

The service is the 297 and passengers in the rural areas use it for work and shopping.

I always thought the service was subsidised by the local council but at these prices it can't be.

If you consider a young person working in Kidderminster on a low wage, a fare bill of £25 a week to travel to work is ridiculous.

I would like to see whoever is responsible for bus fare prices reply to this letter.
