HARTLEBURY COMMON LOCAL GROUP- On April 7, Roy Mantle spoke on wild flowers He gave a slide presentation on the flowers and landscapes of Shropshire, the Welsh borders, Gower Peninsula and the mountains of Wales, North Yorkshire and the Scottish Highlands.
The species shown include lily of the valley in the Wyre Forest, butterfly orchid, cotton sedge, cross leaved heath, butterwort, sundew, bog bean, spotted orchid, bog pimpernel, marsh sainfoin, marsh gentian, seal holly, marsh helleborine, wood violet, bane berry, mountain ravens, angular solomon's seal, cloud berry, starry saxifrage and alpine ladies mantle.
There will be a dawn bird walk starting at 4.15am led by Dave Scott on Hartlebury Common on Saturday followed by breakfast. There will be a moth and butterfly search on Sunday at 2.30pm and there will be a moths night on Saturday, May 24 starting at dusk, both led by Mike Southall. BEWDLEY BRIDGE CLUB - The result of the pairs competition held on April 23 was: first Eileen Haynes and Harry Henfrey with 65.83 per cent, second Anne Freestone and Myra Hunter with 61.2 per cent, third Carol and Andrew Gilmour with 58.33 per cent. The club meets on Wednesday evenings at Hartlebury, and welcomes visitors and potential new members.
